"Expect comforting notes of Hazelnut, Caramel and Peach"
Tucked into the northern side of San Juan Volcano, this small Mexican town started as El Astal and moved in 1969 to sit alongside a highway, becoming the Ejido community of La Yerba.
An Ejido is a kind of farming co-op rooted in Aztec tradition, where families farm communal land and pass it down through generations—as long as they keep it growing!
La Yerba’s farmers, part of the Sociedad el Astal (ASTAL) Cooperative, rely on two key crops: avocados and coffee. One harvest follows the other, so income only flows during certain times of the year. Luckily, partnerships with CAFESUMEX and San Cristobal help—offering a post-harvest bonus based on coffee quality, giving farmers a much-needed boost when money's tight.
Currently 1kg packs are only available as whole bean.
